EARN CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS for Certified Yoga Teachers

The Aerial Yoga teacher-training program is designed for certified yoga instructors and/or dedicated, serious practitioners of all levels of yoga in asana, pranayama and meditation. The course is designed to include the fundamentals of beginning and intermediate technique as well as restorative/therapeutic methods of suspension.

This program is an intensive 5 days, 40 hour training schedule that includes lecture, Q & A sessions, discussion groups, writing assignments and a practicum exam. Each session includes an aerial yoga manual written by the instructor. You must take 100% of the training (no partial days allowed) in order to earn your certificate. The pace of each session is fast, and it may at times be strenuous on your body, especially the arms. Please prepare for the training by conditioning yourself. Planks, supported hand stands against the wall, chaturanga dandasanas are all excellent prep bodywork.

Certified yoga instructors can apply this course towards continuing education credits through Yoga Alliance. Participants will get a certificate of completion upon each level completed.

Along with a guided practice of the technique and principles of demonstration, observation and assisting/ correcting, we will also cover methods of safety in regards to rigging and injury prevention.

Practicum (Optional): One on one teacher/student teaching and feedback. Based on your personal style of teaching and certification with Yoga Alliance, (www.yogaalliance.org) this training is approved for continuing education credits.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ACCEPTANCE

Applicants should be in good physical shape and adhere to a consistent yoga and meditation practice prior to enrollment.

Description:

We begin our program by learning the primary elements of aerial yoga, warm-ups with muscular and strength conditioning, basic aerial yoga vocabulary, anatomy of a suspended movement; asanas in the air; correction and alignment, pedagogy lessons, sequence and flow from the ground up, curriculum development, rigging safety and apparatus building.

We then move to build on more intermediate techniques which are combined with techniques from the aerial dance world.

Later in the program we delve into restorative and therapeutic aerial yoga.  Utilizing the hammock as an apparatus to float the body in suspension and deeply stretch the body through a series of gravity-less sequences. You will gain an understanding of how to deeply open the entire spine, hip girdle, shoulders sockets, and more. The weightlessness provided by surrendering to the support of the hammock allows the body to safely glide to the extent of its flexibility without compression on the joints and connecting tissues. This technique is beneficial in both the prevention and rehabilitation of injuries. Guided meditations are incorporated into the sessions so that students understand the power of visualization inspiring a deeper connection with the body and its needs.
